Edwin is awarded a Ruth Kirchstein Postdoctoral Fellowship!

Congratulations to Edwin Peña Martinez, joint postdoc in the Meers and White labs, for being awarded a Ruth Kirchstein NRSA F32 Postdoctoral Fellowship from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) at NIH! Edwin’s proposal centered on a unique experimental blend of advanced chromatin profiling techniques developed in the Meers Lab and in vivo Massively Parallel Reporter Assays (MPRAs) developed in the White Lab to better understand how non-coding DNA regulatory elements can possess “bifunctional” roles as both enhancers and repressors during development. His studies will focus on the developing retina, wherein multiple key developmental transcription factors compete for the same regulatory element binding sites in the genome while carrying out opposing gene-regulatory functions. Well done Edwin!
